Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency

Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency (METRA) works within the Ministry of National Defence, being part of Armaments Department structure.

In terms of responsibilities for military equipment and technologies scientific research management, Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency assures:

• Maintenance of a military branch for scientific research as a leading source of scientific and technical consultancy for the Ministry of National Defence;
• Approaching and developing unitary the scientific research activities for supporting major acquisition programs for armed forces;
• Testing and evaluation of new techniques, made in Romania or imported, for armed forces endowment;
• Performing comparative analysis regarding the performances of the military technique offered to the army by different producers;
• Elaborating studies and prognosis for developing new categories of military equipment and techniques;
• Facilitating scientific information exchange between national scientific research network and the Ministry of National Defence in order to increase the scientific and technological level of the services acquisitioned.
